Blogger Warm Weather Beauty Essentials For 2012

2 / 9
PJ Gach, BettyConfidential.com: “Love me the Victoria’s Secret Bombshell edp. Why is it my warm weather essential? It’s a bright, sparkly fragrance that matches the blue skies and sunny weather—one sniff and I’m smiling all day (and night) long.” (Victoria’s Secret Bombshell eau de parfum, $49 for the 1.7 oz bottle, Victoria’s Secret)

Style and beauty editor at Betty Confidential loves bronzer just like the next girl, but count her out when that tan looks superficial or, should we say, “Snooki-esque.” For that sun-kissed shade of bronze, Physicians Formula keeps you “Jersey Shore”-free.
“My favorite summer beauty item is inexpensive and super effective. I am in love with Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker pH Powdered Bronzer ($14.95 on physiciansformula.com). This bronzer, I am convinced, is the best on the market. It actually adjusts to your skin tone! Within seconds, you go from pale to sun-kissed tan. When I use it (which is daily), people are convinced that I’ve been a bad girl and laid out in the sun! It doesn’t look like you’re a candidate for the “Jersey Shore” or a victim of a bad fake bake. You just glow! Did I mention the mirror lights up? So cool!

Crushable Questionnaire: Betty Confidential’s PJ Gach
1. What is it you most dislike?
Leggings. Damn Muiccia Prada for bringing them back. Too many people don’t know how to wear them. DO NOT WEAR THEM WITH A CROP TOP, PEOPLE. I am not that interested in seeing your pudenda.
2. Everyone has a “thing.” What’s yours?
Shoes. I’m a serious shoeaholic. You know you have it bad, when you wake up next to the guy you’re dating, roll over and say, “Honey, I have to buy yellow shoes.”
3. Everyone also has a karaoke song. Name yours (and don’t be shy).
“Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Love that song!
4. What’s your backstory?
I’m a born and bred New Yorker! Against my will, when I was 2, my parents moved to Long Island. I spent my entire childhood plotting to get back. Honestly, I don’t know why they wanted to leave the city. My family’s been in NYC for ages; my great something grandfather was the first person to have a car, thereby making it unsafe for future generations of NYers to cross the street. This is why I rely on subways.
5. Who are your biggest influences?
When it comes to fashion, I’d have to say my mother was one of my biggest influences. She went to Pratt and then graduated from Parsons. Before I was born she was a stylist. For awhile when I was little she worked in a showroom at 1407 Broadway- one summer when I was 11,she dragged me to the showroom every day. That’s when I started reading WWD. We’d go shopping and if I liked something, she’d ask me why, then flip the garment inside out to show me how it was constructed. Most of the time, she pointed out design flaws- I learned a lot from her. I love Diana Vreeland’s aesthetic and sense of fearlessness. I think Vionnet was a genius and adored Alexander McQueen’s sensibility- I cried myself silly when he died and I didn’t know him. I just met Georgette Mosbacher and was incredibly impressed by her warmth, charm and sunny nature. I want to grow up to be like that.
6. Whose job would you like to steal?
Hmm, definitely not Anna Wintour’s, I admire her greatly, she has such a sense of fashion, pop culture and is prescient on so many things, but the responsibility must be crushing. If I had to steal a job, it would have to be Ralph Rucci’s- but then again- he’s such a brilliant designer, I couldn’t even design a sleeve the way he does.
7. What was your best date?
Oh, gosh, I want to keep that private. Suffice to say, he bowled me over with his incredible brain, charm, smile and general niceness.
8. What was your worst?
It was a blind date- natch! The guy and I were talking about music (I used to be a rock writer), in the middle of the conversation, he looks at me and says, “I hate it when a chick knows more bands than I do.” Oh, I’m sorry; I left my stupid cap at home.
9. When I wake up in the middle of the night its because I’ve had a nightmare that I’m ___ .
Being chased through a dark forest by monsters wearing polyester.
10. I feel my best when I’m wearing ___ .
Heels. The higher the heel, the closer to god.
11. Please settle the debate: New York or LA?
NY, do you even have to ask?
12. What’s on your playlist at this very moment?
Lady Gaga, Armin Van Buuren, Richie Hawtin, Black Eyed Peas, Jimmy Edgar (new artist)
13. What are you watching on TV?
I just saw and loved Nova’s documentary on Cuttlefish. Horrifically addicted to the Real Housewives franchise, but I think New Jersey is overrated. Love, love, love Dr Who, Torchwood, Being Human, Ashes to Ashes – when is series three coming out- I’m dying over here! Am praying that they make series two of Free Agents. And yes, I dig True Blood- but, while the books are better, they don’t have Alexander’s butt!
14. Given the chance, would you rather hang out with George Clooney or Robert Downey Jr.?
Robert Downey Jr! The man is fascinating, smart and drop dead sexy.
15. If you were a character on any movie or TV show, past or present, who would you be?
Honestly- no one. However, if I could pick wardrobes from movies, that would be another story!
16. What is your drug of choice?
Caffeine! My grand-mere gave me my first cup of coffee when I was two.
17. What’s the last thing you think about before falling asleep at night?
I read myself to sleep, so I’m probably thinking about the book I’m reading. Right now, I’m re-reading Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series-so I’m thinking about wizards, Chicago and urban fiction.

Quoted in Crushable:
Why Are There So Few Photos Of Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds?
Yesterday’s news that Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson, the world’s most attractive couple, were divorcing took us all by shock. They couldn’t! They wouldn’t! Especially since they both seemed so down to earth, so funny, so…perfect for each other! And come on…right after Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron broke up? Are they trying to kill us?!
But as we were trying to put together a gallery of the best moments from ScarJo and Ryan’s relationship, we noticed a funny fact: there are essentially no pictures of the happy couple.
Well, that’s odd. Since the twosome have been officially dating since Ryan split with Alanis Morissette in 2007, you’d think that there’d be some pics of Scarlett with her hubby: maybe waving side by side at each other’s blockbuster movie premiere, or making surprise cameos on each other’s Saturday Night Live episodes. No? Nothing? Seriously, Google “Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson”…the images are scarce, and are comprised entirely of paparazzi shots.
So why the public secrecy? Betty Confidential‘s Senior Editor of Style+Beauty, P.J. Gach, has a few theories. “Their combined beauty would break all the lenses of the paparazzi,” she joked. But getting serious:
“As beautiful they were, neither of them were known for drama. They were both very down-to-earth…They were very low-key.”
So maybe the couple were trying to keep their private life out of the public eye, a la Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis?
“Yeah, but Johnny lives in France, so we don’t get to hear about his life as much. With Ryan and Scarlett, they’re both trading on their looks right now, and looks fade. Both of them live in a fishbowl. And they need to protect that image of them being singularly attractive.”
That may explain what eventually drove them apart: they both are trying to be famous right now, star in everything immediately, and have no time for their relationship.
Still, plenty of attractive couples make appearances together, and the lack of photos could point to other issues in their relationship. If you are too busy trying to make careers as individuals, it’s hard to work as a pair.

Step away from the LBD this holiday season and shine in jewel tones at any holiday event. A black dress is a great item to own. It’s also a basic item and you’re anything but basic, right? Right! So shimmery in blue, red, emerald, gold, heck grab the colors of the rainbow- just don’t wear them all at once and have fun!

Go for the bold like Jenna Dewan! Her Boulee Rhianna dress in fuchsia ($209) brightens up the room and adds a glorious flush of color to her skin. The dress is family friendly and works for spending time with your extended clan. Want to rock it out? Pair the dress with Sam Edelman’s Zoya bootie ($225). This boot’s seriously versatile. It works with a slinky dress and jeans. Check out how Dakota Fanning amped up her casual outfit with those babies.
Strapless dresses are uber hot right now. Steal the scene in this lilac Naven Bombshell mini dress ($335) that Kristin Cavallari wore to an event recently. Kim Kardashian glows in this Brian Lichtenberg one shoulder padded dress in red leopard velvet ($398) Show off your bodacious bod like Demi Lovato did in the magenta Alice+ Olivia one shoulder ruched skirt dress.
Green is the sign of spring, and while we’re celebrating the holidays, each of us longs for warmer months. Bring spring and liveliness to your party just like Sienna Miller did in this Twenty8twelve by S. Miller Porter rayon shiny jersey dress ($285).
No look is ever complete without a little something glittery. Vanessa Hudgens’ been spotted wearingMelinda Maria mini pod bangles in white diamond CZ ($115). Wear this bangle for holiday parties and beyond. Want a little bit of good luck for the New Year? Wear the House of Harlow 1960 Horseshoe stack ring in gold ($29). Where are you going to stick your lippie, gum, keys and other important stuff? Grab theLeah & Bliss Mini Uptown pearl black calfskin handbag ($850). It’s glittery goodness is prefect for a night on the town and you can toss in a pair of foldable flats if your sky high heels can’t keep up with you.
